A 6-month seasonal resident and full-time animal lover with 30 years experience in animal care. She rescued, sponsored sterilization, and housed over 100 cats and countless dogs on her farm in Wisconsin before retiring in 2016. While in Mulegé she dedicates her time to the care of abandoned dogs and to increasing the sterilization efforts. In the United States, she is working to establish connections with shelters for the unwanted animals in Mulegé.
A year round resident to Mulegé who has been visiting the peninsula since 2011. MAR is fortunate in that Héctor, a Mexican dog lover, already has a rescue here in town. In knowing him through the years, he has proven his commitment, passion, and dedication to reducing the suffering of unwanted dogs. Through his incredible generosity, he has helped save the lives of many dozens. Even while he worked for years at BOLEO mine and received less than a living wage, he gave everything he had to help this cause.
Linda has been a full-time Mulegé resident for the past two years & is a proud dog Mom to five rescues. She brings her social media expertise and talents to the MAR team, promoting dogs available for adoption and interfacing with the kind folks reaching out on these platforms. We are proud to have her on our team!
We are so fortunate to have Moana as a Community Liaison for MAR! Because much of our success depends on education and outreach, having her on our team helps us reach the next level! Moana lives in Mulegé full time and is bi-lingual. Her love of animals is evident and she can often be found helping those most in need. Not only has she rescued, fostered, and taken several dogs in to get spayed and neutered on her own, she's also the very proud momma of 3 of Mulegé's bestest goodest doggies!
A vital component of a well-rounded dog rescue team is a medical consultant. Maria brings to MAR her expertise which was gained after a career in emergency medical services. She is a full-time Mulegé resident, bi-lingual, and has an enormous capacity for dealing with even the most intense medical situations. Her skills buy us time in dire situations while we transport a patient to needed care. She also assists in the creation of educational programs, and with kindness teaches others the importance of compassionate animal care. She loves all living things, including butterflies which you can see her marveling at in this photo. Thank you Maria for assisting us in these very important ways!
Sarah Leamy is a British writer and wanderer, a publisher and storyteller. Sarah lived in Germany, Spain, Guatemala, then all over the States, and has recently made her home in Mulegé. Since childhood, she’s been documenting her observations and experiences with the hope of connecting one culture with another. While in New Mexico, she worked as an adoption counsellor for an animal shelter, volunteered with a few rescues as well as fostered numerous dogs, cats and even donkeys.
Finn has been an invaluable volunteer here at MAR, helping us find loving homes for several dogs. He's also been an integral part of our medical team, assisting us in collecting dogs at the municipal dump so we could give them vital vaccines. Dogs love him and he's a comfort to all he meets, a real gift. He and his brother Emmit took it upon themselves to raise money for Mulegé's dogs and they've managed to collect over 10,000 pesos so far!! We are proud to have Finn as an important part of our volunteer team!
Emmit has a very special way with dogs and we are so grateful for all the comfort he's given to so many who were initially afraid as they entered foster care. He also helped find homes for several dogs in-need. Emmit is an excellent dog wrangler and bravely helped us collect the dump puppies so we could vaccinate them. Incredibly, he and his brother Finn also managed to raise over 10,000 pesos for Mulegé's most at-risk dogs!! We are very grateful for all of his help and support!
